Description

Folded Away Softly is a collection of contemporary Indian poetry in English, written from the in-between spaces: unspoken feelings, quiet turning points, the moments where meaning settles before we have words for it.

These are not grand declarations. They live in a woman stripped of her armour, a mother waiting in a hospital corridor, construction workers pausing to empty their pockets for a stranger, a kitten falling from a wall and climbing back up without looking for approval. Corporate corridors, rainy Bengaluru mornings, grief, betrayal, belonging, and grace.

Indian in its sensibility. Intimate in its attention. Written in English that never strains for effect.

Each poem is paired with an evocative illustration by Dhanya Jinapal and a context note not to explain, but to offer companionship.

  1. Sasi Ram Kanna

This book felt less like reading poems and more like having random late-night thoughts finally put into words. Every few pages gave me a “yeah… right?” moment where I had to stop and think for a second.
What I liked most is that it’s not a book you need to read in one stretch. You can literally open any random page, read one poem, and somehow it connects with something you’ve felt before. Some poems are simple, some hit unexpectedly deep, and a few completely changed the way I looked at ordinary things.
It feels personal, relatable, and comforting without trying too hard. Perfect book for slow reading, quiet evenings, or when your mind just wants something honest and thoughtful.

  2. Dr. Swetha Raghunathan | Author

Folded away softly is a collection of poems at once brilliant and insightful. These poems capture with finely drawn images the Indian landscape and essence of being Indian. A must read for those who wish to experience the real transformations of life.

  3. Usha Nayak | Ahmedabad

Seems quite good. You have a way with words, concise yet eloquent. Glanced at a few poems.

I hesitated to read all at once as I dont want to finish it in a hurry. It needs to be savoured…
